Nomad Session is the Bay Area’s first wind and brass octet. It features flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, french horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba … and sometimes the kazoo. Bringing wind instruments to the forefront, Nomad introduces audiences to a new world of musical opportunities by commissioning new pieces, creating inspiring arrangements and exploring innovative performance experiences both on stage and in a park near you.
In keeping with its name, Nomad Session started a series of Pop-Up Concerts where musicians “wander” around local parks and establishments in order to bring music to the community. Recent pop-up performances have taken place in Golden Gate Park, Lake Merritt, Winter Walk SF in Union Square and most recently in Dolores Park.
Nomad Session’s first concert series entitled, “Cool Grey City” features a newly commissioned work written by Bay Area composer, Nicolas Benavides, which focuses on the intersection of music and hidden spaces of San Francisco. Each concert will reveal a different movement of this work, and the piece will be unveiled in its entirety at the final performance of this season.
